Most importantly, it is our effort to acknowledge the serious need for alternatives to the conventional practices of chemical applications in agriculture and provide honest, environmentally conscious, organic solutions.
We constantly hear about the things we consume and put into our body. It has become quite evident, that “we are what we eat”. Fifty years ago, gluten allergies and lactose intolerances were virtually unheard of. All of a sudden, it seems like everyone, especially children, have some kind of allergic reaction to something!
Within the last fifty years in the United States, we have become alarmingly aware of the overwhelming use of synthetic chemical applications in products we consume and the food we eat. This is not a coincidence, but rather a cause and effect.
In addition to this conundrum, chemical resistant bacteria is now reaching a state of significant alarm and needs to be addressed, not with increasingly stronger mixtures of chemical compounds, which is the root of the problem, but with time tested and proven solutions utilized in other parts of the world.

Hungry Planet Organics (HPO), established in 2010, focuses on providing organic soil amendments to farmers and growers throughout the north-western region of the United States. In 2012, HPO became a Washington Limited Liability Company (LLC) and now operates as an Idaho LLC. From inception, it has worked in privileged association with Agroin/Baja Agro International S.A. de C.V (ABAI) located in Ensenada, Mexico. ABAI produces BIOSOIL®, an organic extract produced from the only privately owned sustainable plantation of Yucca Schidigera in the world.
Since 1983, ABAI has been dedicated to the harvesting and commercialization of the Yucca Schidigera plant, which only thrives in the northwestern region of Mexico and in the southwestern region of the United States, known as Baja, California. ABAI currently distributes products in 41 countries throughout the world. Agroin/Baja Agro International was recently awarded with the Premio Nacional de Exportación (National Export Award) 2016 from President of México Enrique Peña Nieto.
HPO worked closely from 2012 through 2015 as an independent sub-contractor for a start-up company selling, installing and maintaining an expensive prototype machine which produced EO water on location for major fruit packing facilities and grower-producers in Central Washington.
These machines were utilized to manufacture and store EO water on-site for washing and removing bacteria from various types of fruit and produce during the packaging process, in addition to being used for cleaning and disinfecting the associated machinery and areas surrounding, also known in the industry as Clean In Place (CIP). Unfortunately, the highly acidic nature of the EO water from this prototype machine,
ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 pH, prohibited practical use without additional outlays for expensive alterations to existing machinery to accommodate the corrosiveness, which is detrimental to metals.
Note: In chemistry, potential of hydrogen (pH) is a numeric scale used to specify the acidity of basicity of an aqueous solution. Solutions with a pH less than 7 are acidic and solutions with a pH greater than 7 are basic. Pure water is neutral, at pH 7 at a temperature of 77 ºF, being neither an acid nor a base.
In due course, the clear need materialized for a safe, reliable and cost effective alternative to provide a “metal friendly” EO water solution with a near neutral pH level produced from a high quality, low maintenance device backed by a solid warranty, coupled with a reliable maintenance and support program.
In August of 2017, after thorough research and vetting, HPO entered into agreement with Radical Waters PTY Limited (RW), ( www.RadicalWaters.com ) as an Exclusive Distributorship encompassing the GNW region. RW manufactures high quality, dependable, competitively priced machines, termed “Natural Hygiene Generators”. These generators produce EO water, through a process called Electro-Chemical Activation of water (ECA).
RW has spent over 25 years focused on developing and commercializing its patented “green” ECA technology. The company has installed operating ECA devices on six continents and in 27 countries with distributors located in China, Spain, Israel, Germany, Panama, Chile, Bahrain, Singapore/India, Russia/Ukraine, the Philippines, and now the United States. RW focuses on global markets that include beverage production, meat & seafood, sauce manufacture, milling & starch, and hospitality.

Biosoil® – Natural Wetting Agent and Soil Conditioner
Yucca Schidigera is the unique ingredient of this product, acting as a natural wetting agent and soil conditioner. BIOSOIL® is OMRI® Listed (Organic Materials Review Institute) and carries the coveted and protected USDA Organic Seal from the United States Department of Agriculture.
Acting as a soil enhancer, BIOSOIL® allows for better physical conditioning as it modifies soil structure. The flocculant action allows for greater penetration of air and water, encouraging the development of existing microorganisms in the soil and thus increasing the decomposition of organic material and the formation of humus. This allows the plant an increased availability for absorption of nutrients. Roots are more vigorous. The plant becomes more vibrant, encouraging earlier germination and healthy growth.
BIOSOIL® reduces the superficial tension of water, allowing it to penetrate quickly and homogeneously. The enhanced action of the soil forces superficial salts to leach easier,creating better development of root structure for healthier plants. NOT a fertilizer, herbicide or pesticide, BIOSOIL® is biodegradable and non-toxic to the environment.
HPO distributes BIOSOIL® on a wholesale level to grower-producers for application in orchards, vineyards and farms throughout the Great Northwest (GNW). As the organic market continues to flourish, the demand for approved amendments, fertilizers and supplements continues to increase. Registered organic operations are required to use only organically certified products, with limited or no options. BIOSOIL® is also
compatible with non-organic, conventional farming methods and products.
ECA Water™ – “Natural Hygiene Generators”
ECA Water is a unique concept and relatively new product to the United States, but has substantial historical recognition with a respected international presence. This ECA process uses water, salt and electricity to produce two separate solutions. ECA solutions are highly effective in controlling bacteria, spores, fungi, viruses, yeasts and molds. In the sanitation process, many micro-organisms develop a tolerance or resistance to conventional chemicals as a result of continuous exposure. That tolerance or resistance does not develop with ECA Water solutions. 
The first ECA solution is a potent natural disinfectant-sanitizer known as Anolyte, with the formula HOCl (hypochlorous acid), also referred to as active free chlorine or free available chlorine (FAC). Anolyte is near neutral with a 6.5 pH level and is measured for Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP). Measured in millivolts (mV), ORP above +650mV kills micro-organisms. Anolyte has been shown to be effective at eliminating pathogens
and food spoilage microbes, including spores.
Microbes, like other living things need a stable energy supply to survive. ECA Water destabilizes and elevates the electrical charge of the water creating an environment in which microbes cannot survive. The energy difference between ECA Water (+900mV) and tap water (+200mV) will kill one million E.coli microbes in 30 seconds. 
The second ECA solution is an anti-oxidizing, mild alkaline solution known as Catholyte with the formula NaOH (sodium hydroxide), holding a pH range of 10.5 to 12.0 and ORP of -600 to -900mV, which is utilized as a highly beneficial cleaning detergent. Anolyte and Catholyte, used on their own or combined, are extremely successful in removing and controlling biofilm on liquid contact surfaces.
“Electrolyzed oxidizing (EO) water has been regarded as a new sanitizer in recent years. EO water have the following advantages over other traditional cleaning agents: effective disinfection, easy operation, relatively inexpensive, and environmentally friendly. The main advantage of EO water is its safety. EO water which is also a strong acid, is different to hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid in that it is not corrosive to skin, mucous membrane, or organic material. Electrolyzed water has been tested and used as a disinfectant in the food industry and other applications. Combination of EO water and other measures are also possible.” 
“The difference between a ‘disinfectant' and a ‘sanitizer’ is one of application. Whereas the health care industry is mainly interested in “disinfectant” data, the foodservice- related industries guided by the Public Health Services are primarily concerned with “sanitizer” claims. The actual difference between the two terms is, to some extent, a matter of legal definition. In current American regulatory parlance, a disinfectant is a
product that completely destroys all specific test organisms in 10 minutes under conditions of the AOAC Use Dilution Test, whereas a sanitizer is a product which destroys 99.999% (or a 5-log reduction) of specified test bacteria in 30 seconds under conditions of the Official Detergent Sanitizer Test. Obviously, both deal with different aspects of the same problem: killing bacteria.
The sanitizing characteristics (of EO water) are a bit different in this technology. The high oxidation of the water first damages bacterial cell walls, allowing infiltration by water. The microbe reaches capacity, causing an osmotic, or hydration, overload. The acidic fluid and water floods the cell more rapidly than the cell can expel it, literally causing the cell to burst. These technologies show great promise, limited only by our imagination. I predict that full approval and acceptance of both activated and electrolyzed water as cleaners and sanitizers in the retail food industry will soon become a reality.”

The major feature, and strongest selling point, is the safety factor in working with ECA Water. There are minimal required protocols involved in the handling and storing due to its non-toxic qualities. Employee training and record keeping will be greatly reduced while still complying with the stringent requirements in food & safety standards. ECA Water provides for a safer environment with application and handling procedures.
A highly regarded advantage of ECA Water is with Anolyte holding a 6.5 pH level. This solution is much less corrosive to metals and machinery parts compared to its chemical counterparts and other competing products. Anolyte has a unique mechanism of biocidal action, very distinct from that of synthetic chemicals. It has been repeatedly shown that micro-organisms are unable to build up a tolerance to ECA technology. 
Average CIP time may be reduced by up to 70% due to shorter contact time required for effective cleaning and disinfecting, a significant labor reduction consideration.
Up to 60% reduction in water costs, due to shorter cleaning and disinfection cycles are realized, as well as the ability to reclaim CIP solutions for reuse. ECA Water solutions are compatible, so rinsing between and after applications is no longer required.
ECA Water is applied at ambient temperatures resulting in substantial energy savings over conventional chemicals requiring higher temperatures for application.
Both solutions are reclaimable and can be re-used several times before releasing into drainage systems with no effect on the downstream environment. Broad adoption results in substantial reductions of toxic effluent.
ECA Water devices are installed on-site with a reserve of solutions stored in food grade buffer tanks allowing availability on demand. There are no significant transport costs or hazardous storage controls, as with conventional chemical supplies.
The efficacious properties of ECA Water remain stable in storage for up to one year with little or no maintenance, proving an uncommon advantage industry wide.
ECA Water does not affect taste, color or appearance of food products.
ECA Water assists in compliance of critical micro standards of products with no costly preservatives or pasteurization.
ECA Water is safe for unrestricted use by plant personnel, as well as in food and beverage products within all areas of manufacturing and packaging facilities.

Since HPO’s inception, it has been privately owned and operated by Idaho native and founder John Ballard, with the goal to provide natural, effective “green” alternatives to synthetically based chemical products commonly used in agriculture and associated operations.
Ballard has spent the last seven years supplying BIOSOIL® on a wholesale level to grower- producers throughout the PNW. The opportunity evolved from hands on experience with electrolyzed water, witnessing the significant effects this solution can make in food & safety
protocols. Ballard directs Operations, Sales and General Management.
Toney Williams, a retired executive from IDACORP Inc., oversees strategical and financial operations, and acts as Financial Director for the company. Mr. William’s astuteness and intelligence gained over years of successful management provides HPO with guidance for sound planning and continued growth.
A strategic outside alliance with Jamie Griffin, VP of National Accounts-Food Processing for Management Recruiters of Boise, is in place to provide direct access to the upper management of processing facilities and operations throughout the region.
For over 24 years Griffin has been directly involved with food production and processing. With a background in microbiology, he has built a strong reputation in the industry as a reliable professional holding to the highest degree of standards and ethics.
